About Us

Who are we?

FOALS are a Parent Teacher Association. We are a member of PTA-UK and we are also a registered charity. Our charity number is 1104422.
Since being established in 2004 we have raised money to pay for equipment and resources for Ash Lea school and also organised many activities and events for the children.

FOALS is run by a small committee of parents and teachers of Ash Lea pupils who meet once or twice a term. They give up a lot of their spare time to run FOALS.

What do we do?

Our main aim is to organise a calendar of subsidised or free activities and events for children that attend Ash Lea school and also for their parents/carers. We also organise fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for this.
Aside from these events, we also pay for equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education experience and the schools facilities.

Put simply, we raise money for the benefit of our children at Ash Lea. However, FOALS is about much more than simply fundraising and event organisation. FOALS provides an excellent way of bringing staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.

We are extremely conscious of the diversity of our school, and we try very hard when organising and planning events to respect this.

Examples of our work

In previous years we have donated towards play equipment, sports gear, wheelchair accessible tents and a BBQ stand for the Ash Lea scouts group.  We have contributed to the hire of vintage buses and limousines for the school leavers prom nights and we have also provided funding for the children to attend theme parks and zoo’s during the school’s Fun week in the summer holidays.

Twice a year we hire the pool at Cotgrave Leisure Centre and provide a free buffet afterwards. We hire out a cinema for a private screening at the Broadway cinema in Nottingham city centre and we also fund tickets to theme parks and organise a private carriage on the Santa Special steam train at the Ruddington Transport Heritage Centre.

For parents and carers we organise a nights out once or twice a year to provide an opportunity for parents to meet up socially which is not usually possible at the school gates as most children receive funded transport from Nottinghamshire County Council to get them to and from school.

About the FOALS Committee

The Committee consists of three Officers: Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. In addition to this are the ordinary committee members to make up the full committee, but they are by no means ordinary!
The Committee meets on a regular basis, once or twice per term, with smaller working groups meeting as necessary when we are planning larger events. We hold our meetings at the Rose and Crown pub in Cotgrave. If you’d like to join us please feel free. We always welcome new members.
